Devonian Gardens Guide
Escape to a Tropical Oasis in the Heart of Calgary Guide
The Devonian Gardens, a stunning indoor botanical garden located in the heart of downtown Calgary, offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Spanning a full acre on the fourth floor of the CORE Shopping Centre, this urban oasis features lush greenery, cascading waterfalls, koi ponds, and over 500 trees, shrubs, and plants from around the world. It's a perfect place to relax, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a moment of serenity, regardless of the weather outside. Originally opened in 1977, the Devonian Gardens were a gift to the city from the Devonian Foundation. After a period of closure for renovations, the gardens were reopened in 2012 with updated features and a renewed commitment to sustainability. The gardens are designed to be accessible to all, with wide pathways and elevators ensuring everyone can enjoy the beauty and tranquility they offer. Visitors can stroll through the winding pathways, admire the diverse plant life, and listen to the soothing sounds of the waterfalls. Children will especially enjoy the playground and the koi ponds, where they can observe the colorful fish. The gardens also host various events throughout the year, including horticultural workshops, live music performances, and art exhibitions. While there are no restaurants within the gardens themselves, the CORE Shopping Centre offers a wide variety of dining options to suit every taste.
Transportation
The Devonian Gardens are easily accessible by public transportation. Take the CTrain to the 3rd Street SW Station or the 4th Street SW Station, both of which are within walking distance of the CORE Shopping Centre.
