A Sanctuary for Wildlife: Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center Guide

Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center (PTWRC), located just outside Phnom Penh, Cambodia, is a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing animals that have been victims of illegal wildlife trade, habitat loss, or other forms of exploitation. It offers visitors a unique opportunity to observe Cambodian wildlife in a semi-natural environment and learn about conservation efforts. PTWRC was established in 1995 by Wildlife Alliance, an international conservation organization, in partnership with the Cambodian government. The center provides a safe haven for a wide range of animals, including elephants, tigers, lions, sun bears, gibbons, and various species of birds and reptiles. Many of the animals have been rescued from poachers, illegal pet owners, or abandoned zoos. Visitors can explore the center on foot or by renting a bicycle. You can observe the animals in their enclosures, learn about their individual stories, and witness the dedicated work of the staff and volunteers. Some activities include feeding elephants (under supervision), observing the gibbons in their natural habitat, and learning about the challenges facing Cambodian wildlife. The center also offers educational programs for children and adults.
