Palm Beach Guide
Palm Beach: Koh Rong's Untouched Paradise Guide
Palm Beach, nestled on the northern tip of Koh Rong, is a slice of paradise that feels worlds away from the bustling tourist hubs. Imagine powdery white sand stretching as far as the eye can see, fringed by swaying palm trees and lapped by crystal-clear turquoise waters. This is the place to escape the crowds and reconnect with nature in its purest form. Forget fancy resorts and noisy bars; Palm Beach offers a tranquil escape where the only sounds are the gentle lapping of waves and the rustling of leaves. While Palm Beach doesn't boast ancient ruins or historical landmarks, its history lies in its untouched beauty. For years, it remained a hidden gem, known only to locals and intrepid backpackers. Its relative isolation has helped preserve its pristine condition, making it a haven for those seeking authentic Cambodian island life. The local community is small and welcoming, adding to the charm and tranquility of the area. Activities on Palm Beach are centered around relaxation and enjoying the natural surroundings. Swimming and sunbathing are, of course, top priorities. The calm, shallow waters are perfect for a refreshing dip. You can also rent a kayak and explore the coastline, discovering hidden coves and secluded beaches. For the more adventurous, hiking through the jungle to nearby Long Beach is a rewarding experience. As the sun sets, grab a cocktail at one of the beachfront bars and watch the sky explode with color – a truly unforgettable experience. While there aren't specific culinary traditions unique to Palm Beach, you'll find fresh seafood grilled to perfection at the local restaurants, offering a taste of the Cambodian coast.
Transportation
Reaching Palm Beach requires a bit of effort, adding to its secluded charm. The most common way is to take a ferry from Sihanoukville to Koh Rong (Koh Touch). From Koh Touch, you can either take a longtail boat directly to Palm Beach (around 45 minutes, negotiate the price) or take a boat to Long Set Beach and then hike across the island (approximately 1 hour). Be sure to wear appropriate footwear for the hike.
