Marvel at the intricate mosaics that adorn the basilica's floor, depicting vibrant geometric patterns and symbolic imagery. The Small Basilica was discovered during archaeological excavations in the 1980s. It is believed to have been built during the late Roman or early Byzantine period, a time when Plovdiv (known then as Philippopolis) was a thriving city. The basilica's mosaics are particularly noteworthy, showcasing the artistic skill and religious beliefs of the time. The site provides valuable insights into the development of Christianity in the region and the cultural exchange that occurred between the Roman Empire and the local Thracian population.
