Jorge Amado (1912-2001) was a prolific writer whose novels captured the essence of Bahia, its people, its traditions, and its struggles. His works, translated into numerous languages, brought the vibrant and complex world of Salvador to a global audience. The Fundação Casa de Jorge Amado was established in 1987, years before his death, to safeguard his archives and promote his work. The building itself is a historical landmark, reflecting the architectural style of the Pelourinho, a UNESCO World Heritage site. At the Fundação Casa de Jorge Amado, you can explore exhibits showcasing Amado's life, works, and personal belongings. Browse through his manuscripts, photographs, and letters, gaining insights into his creative process and his deep connection to Bahia. The foundation also hosts cultural events, lectures, and workshops, further enriching the visitor experience. After your visit, take some time to wander through the Pelourinho, the very streets that inspired so many of Amado's stories. You can almost hear the echoes of his characters and the rhythms of Bahian life.
