Parque Lage Guide
Parque Lage: A Romantic Oasis at the Foot of Christ the Redeemer Guide
Escape the urban hustle and find serenity at Parque Lage, a stunning public park nestled at the base of the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue. This isn't just a park; it's a visual masterpiece, blending lush rainforest, meticulously landscaped gardens, and a magnificent Italianate mansion. Prepare to be enchanted by its romantic atmosphere, breathtaking views, and the sense of tranquility that permeates every corner. It's the perfect place for a leisurely stroll, a picnic, or simply soaking in the beauty of Rio. The history of Parque Lage dates back to the 19th century when it was part of an estate owned by industrialist Henrique Lage and his wife, opera singer Gabriela Besanzoni. The mansion, designed in the Italianate style, was built in the 1920s and served as their residence. After their deaths, the property was donated to the city and transformed into a public park in the 1970s. Today, the mansion houses the Escola de Artes Visuais (School of Visual Arts), adding a creative and artistic dimension to the park. Parque Lage offers a variety of activities for visitors. Explore the park's trails, which wind through lush vegetation and offer stunning views of Christ the Redeemer. Visit the Escola de Artes Visuais and admire the architecture of the mansion. Relax by the central pond, where you can often spot monkeys and other wildlife. Enjoy a picnic on the lawn or grab a bite to eat at the cafe located in the mansion's courtyard. While Parque Lage doesn't have a specific culinary tradition, the cafe offers a selection of snacks, sandwiches, and drinks.
