This isn't just a place to stay; it's an immersion into the raw beauty and ancient spirit of the Makgadikgadi Pans. Imagine waking up to the vast, shimmering salt pans stretching as far as the eye can see, dotted with the iconic silhouettes of baobab trees against the African sky. Planet Baobab offers a quirky and comfortable base from which to explore this extraordinary landscape. While not a historical site in the traditional sense, the area surrounding Planet Baobab is steeped in history. The Makgadikgadi Pans are remnants of a super-lake that existed thousands of years ago, supporting a thriving ecosystem and early human settlements. The baobab trees themselves are living monuments, some estimated to be over a thousand years old, silently witnessing the passage of time. The local culture is rich with traditions and stories passed down through generations, offering a glimpse into the lives of the people who have called this harsh but beautiful land home for centuries. At Planet Baobab, adventure awaits! Embark on quad bike excursions across the salt pans, feeling the wind in your hair as you race across the seemingly endless expanse. Take a guided walk to learn about the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this arid environment. During the rainy season, witness the spectacular migration of zebras and wildebeest, a truly breathtaking sight. And don't forget to indulge in the local cuisine! Botswana is known for its hearty stews, grilled meats (especially beef), and the staple grain, sorghum. Try Seswaa, a slow-cooked, pounded beef dish, or relish a plate of Morogo, a delicious wild spinach. Planet Baobab itself offers a menu featuring both international and local flavors, ensuring a satisfying culinary experience.
