Cretaceous Park Guide
Walk Among Giants: Cretaceous Park, Sucre Guide
Step back in time at Cretaceous Park, a truly unique and awe-inspiring attraction just outside Sucre, Bolivia. This isn't your typical museum; it's a real-life paleontological site where thousands of dinosaur footprints are perfectly preserved on a massive rock wall. Imagine standing in the footsteps (literally!) of these prehistoric creatures, marveling at the sheer scale and diversity of the dinosaurs that once roamed this land. It's an unforgettable experience for dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages. The story of Cretaceous Park began in 1994 when workers at a local cement factory, FANCESA, stumbled upon these incredible footprints. Over time, further excavation revealed a vast collection of tracks from various dinosaur species, dating back approximately 68 million years to the Late Cretaceous period. The near-vertical rock face, once a muddy shoreline, perfectly captured and preserved these footprints, offering a remarkable glimpse into the past. The site is now a protected area and a major tourist attraction. Visitors to Cretaceous Park can explore the site via guided tours, learning about the different types of dinosaurs that left their mark here, including theropods, sauropods, and ornithopods. The park also features life-size dinosaur models, a museum with informative exhibits, and a viewing platform for optimal viewing of the footprint wall. Don't miss the opportunity to take some amazing photos and create lasting memories of your prehistoric adventure. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition associated with the park itself, you can find delicious Bolivian food in nearby Sucre.
