Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, flew to this location on the back of a tigress in the 8th century. He meditated in a cave here for three years, three months, three weeks, three days, and three hours, subduing local demons and establishing Buddhism in Bhutan. The monastery complex was built around this cave in 1692. Over the centuries, it has been rebuilt and restored after fires and earthquakes, but it remains a symbol of Bhutan's unwavering faith. The hike to Tiger's Nest is a challenging but rewarding experience. The trail winds through pine forests, offering stunning views of the valley below. The hike takes approximately 2-3 hours each way, depending on your fitness level. Visitors are required to dress respectfully, covering their shoulders and legs. Photography is not allowed inside the monastery. While there are no restaurants at the monastery itself, there is a cafeteria halfway up the trail where you can rest and enjoy refreshments. Bhutanese cuisine is characterized by its use of chili peppers. Common dishes include *ema datshi* (chili peppers and cheese), *phaksha paa* (pork with chili peppers), and *momos* (dumplings).
