TIDE: Protecting Toledo's Natural Wonders Guide
The Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of the natural resources of the Toledo District in southern Belize. While not a traditional tourist attraction, TIDE offers unique opportunities for visitors to learn about and experience the region's incredible biodiversity and participate in sustainable tourism initiatives. If you're interested in ecotourism and supporting conservation efforts, TIDE is a must-visit. TIDE was founded in 1997 with the mission of protecting the diverse ecosystems of Toledo, including its rainforests, rivers, and coral reefs. The organization works closely with local communities to promote sustainable development and empower them to manage their natural resources effectively. TIDE's efforts have been instrumental in preserving the region's rich biodiversity and ensuring the long-term health of its ecosystems. Visitors can engage with TIDE through various activities, including guided tours of the Payne's Creek National Park, a protected area managed by TIDE. These tours offer opportunities for birdwatching, hiking, and learning about the local flora and fauna. You can also participate in volunteer programs, assisting with research and conservation projects. TIDE also offers educational workshops and presentations on environmental issues. By supporting TIDE, you're contributing to the conservation of Toledo's natural heritage.
