Bocawina Falls: A Majestic Cascade in the Jungle Guide

Bocawina Falls, the namesake of the national park, is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the Bocawina area. This impressive waterfall plunges over 100 feet into a refreshing pool below, creating a stunning spectacle and a perfect spot for a swim. The hike to the falls is an adventure in itself, taking you through lush rainforest teeming with wildlife. The sound of the cascading water and the vibrant greenery surrounding the falls create a truly immersive and unforgettable experience. While the falls themselves don't have a specific historical narrative, they are an integral part of the natural landscape that has shaped the region for centuries. The Mayans likely utilized the water source and revered the natural beauty of the area. The preservation of the falls within the national park ensures that future generations can appreciate its splendor. The primary activity at Bocawina Falls is, of course, swimming! The pool at the base of the falls is perfect for a refreshing dip after your hike. You can also hike to the top of the falls for a different perspective (exercise caution, as the rocks can be slippery). For the adventurous, waterfall rappelling is a popular activity, allowing you to descend the falls with the guidance of experienced professionals. Birdwatching is also excellent in the surrounding rainforest.

Transportation

Bocawina Falls is located within the Mayflower Bocawina National Park. To reach the park entrance, follow the same directions as for the Bocawina Rainforest Resort: take a bus from Belize City towards Dangriga and get off at the Bocawina National Park junction. From the park entrance, it's a hike to the falls. The trail is well-marked, but it's recommended to wear appropriate footwear and bring water.
