This museum offers a glimpse into the lives of these influential individuals and showcases their impressive art collections. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a bygone era and admire masterpieces by renowned Flemish artists. The Snijders&Rockoxhuis is actually two adjacent houses, each reflecting the distinct personalities and tastes of its former owner. Nicolaas Rockox, a prominent politician and art collector, lived in his house from 1603 until his death in 1640. Frans Snijders, a renowned painter of animals and still lifes, lived next door from 1604 until his death in 1657. The museum was created by combining the two houses, allowing visitors to explore the interconnected lives and artistic circles of these two influential figures. Explore the beautifully preserved rooms of the Snijders&Rockoxhuis and admire the impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, and furniture. Learn about the lives and careers of Frans Snijders and Nicolaas Rockox through informative displays and guided tours. Discover the stories behind the artworks and gain insights into the artistic and cultural landscape of 17th-century Antwerp. While the museum doesn't have a specific culinary tradition, consider visiting a local bakery for a "Antwerpse Handjes" (Antwerp Hands), a traditional biscuit shaped like a hand, to complete your cultural experience.
