Antwerp Zoo Guide
A World of Wildlife in the Heart of Antwerp: Visit Antwerp Zoo Guide
Antwerp Zoo, located right next to the Antwerp Central Station, is one of the oldest and most renowned zoos in the world. Founded in 1843, it's home to over 5,000 animals representing around 950 different species. From majestic elephants and playful penguins to rare okapis and colorful birds, Antwerp Zoo offers a fascinating glimpse into the animal kingdom. It's a perfect destination for families, animal lovers, and anyone looking for a fun and educational experience. The zoo was established by the Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp with the aim of promoting zoology and animal conservation. Over the years, it has evolved from a menagerie to a modern zoo focused on animal welfare, research, and education. The zoo's historical buildings, including the Egyptian Temple and the Moorish Temple, add to its unique charm and architectural significance. Antwerp Zoo plays an important role in international breeding programs for endangered species. Visitors to Antwerp Zoo can enjoy a variety of activities. Explore the different animal enclosures, learn about the animals through informative displays and presentations, and watch the daily animal feedings. The zoo also offers special events and activities throughout the year, such as behind-the-scenes tours and educational workshops. While the zoo has several restaurants and cafes offering a range of food options, Antwerp is famous for its culinary delights. Try local specialties like Belgian fries, waffles, and chocolate.
