Al Fateh Grand Mosque Guide

A Beacon of Islamic Art and Culture Guide

Welcome to Al Fateh Grand Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world and a stunning example of modern Islamic architecture. This magnificent structure is not only a place of worship but also a cultural landmark that welcomes visitors of all faiths to learn about Islam and admire its artistic grandeur. Prepare to be awestruck by its sheer scale, intricate details, and serene atmosphere. The mosque was built by the late Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa in 1988 and named after Ahmed Al Fateh, the founder of Bahrain. The dome, made entirely of fiberglass, weighs over 60 tonnes and is one of the largest fiberglass domes in the world. Italian Carrara marble is used extensively throughout the mosque, adding to its elegance. The mosque can accommodate over 7,000 worshippers at a time, making it a significant religious center in Bahrain. Visitors can take guided tours of the mosque (dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees; headscarves are provided for women). The National Library of Bahrain is located within the mosque complex, offering a vast collection of books and manuscripts. Photography is permitted in designated areas. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition directly associated with the mosque, nearby restaurants offer traditional Bahraini cuisine, allowing you to experience the local flavors after your visit.
