Pink Sands Paradise: Explore Harbour Island Guide

Harbour Island, just off the coast of Eleuthera, is famous for its stunning pink sand beaches and charming New England-style architecture. This small island offers a unique blend of Bahamian culture and upscale relaxation. From the moment you arrive, you'll be captivated by the pastel-colored houses, friendly locals, and the breathtaking beauty of the pink sand stretching along the coastline. Harbour Island has a rich history dating back to the 17th century when it served as a Loyalist stronghold during the American Revolution. Dunmore Town, the island's only settlement, was once the capital of the Bahamas. The island's architecture reflects its colonial past, with many buildings dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Walking through Dunmore Town is like stepping back in time. The main activity on Harbour Island is, of course, enjoying the pink sand beach. Swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, and diving are all popular options. You can also explore Dunmore Town, visit the local shops and restaurants, or take a boat trip to nearby islands. Golf carts are the primary mode of transportation on the island, adding to its unique charm. Harbour Island is also known for its Junkanoo celebrations, a vibrant and colorful street parade held on Boxing Day and New Year's Day. The island offers a variety of restaurants, from casual beach bars to fine dining establishments, many specializing in fresh seafood. Try the conch salad or grilled lobster for a true taste of the Bahamas.

Transportation

To reach Harbour Island, you'll first need to fly into North Eleuthera Airport (ELH). From the airport, take a short taxi ride to the dock, where you can catch a water taxi to Harbour Island. Water taxis run frequently throughout the day. Once on Harbour Island, golf carts are the primary mode of transportation and can be rented easily.
