Uluru (Ayers Rock) Guide

Witness the Heart of Australia: Uluru Awaits Guide

Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is an iconic sandstone monolith located in the heart of Australia's Red Centre. Rising majestically from the surrounding desert landscape, it's a place of immense natural beauty and profound spiritual significance for the Anangu people, the traditional owners of the land. A visit to Uluru is an unforgettable experience, offering a glimpse into the ancient history and culture of Australia. Uluru was formed over 550 million years ago and has been a sacred site for the Anangu people for tens of thousands of years. The rock is covered in ancient rock art and is central to many of their Dreamtime stories. European explorers first sighted Uluru in the 19th century, and it was later named Ayers Rock after Sir Henry Ayers. In 1985, ownership of Uluru was officially returned to the Anangu people, who jointly manage the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park with Parks Australia. Visitors to Uluru can experience its magic in many ways. Take a walk around the base of the rock to appreciate its scale and discover ancient rock art. Witness the spectacular sunrise or sunset as the colors of the rock change dramatically. Learn about Anangu culture through guided tours and cultural experiences. Climb to the summit (note: climbing Uluru is now permanently closed out of respect for the Anangu people). Explore the nearby Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), another stunning rock formation. While there are restaurants and cafes within the Ayers Rock Resort, consider trying some bush tucker-inspired dishes to experience the flavors of the Australian outback.
