Araucaria Falls Guide
Araucaria Falls: A Rainforest Retreat in the Scenic Rim Guide
Escape the everyday and immerse yourself in the lush beauty of Araucaria Falls, nestled within Cunninghams Gap National Park. This stunning waterfall, cascading through ancient rainforest, offers a refreshing escape and a chance to connect with nature. The falls are named after the majestic hoop pines (Araucaria cunninghamii) that dominate the surrounding landscape, some of which are hundreds of years old. Prepare to be captivated by the sights and sounds of the rainforest as you embark on a memorable adventure. The Araucaria Falls track itself is a moderate 6.4km circuit, taking approximately 2-3 hours to complete. The trail winds through diverse rainforest ecosystems, offering glimpses of unique flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for colourful birds, shy reptiles, and perhaps even a glimpse of a pademelon. The highlight, of course, is the falls themselves, where you can pause to admire the cascading water and soak in the tranquil atmosphere. The track can be slippery after rain, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Beyond the hike, the area surrounding Araucaria Falls offers opportunities for picnicking and simply enjoying the serenity of the rainforest. Pack a lunch and find a peaceful spot to relax and listen to the sounds of nature. While there aren't specific culinary traditions directly linked to the falls, the nearby towns of Aratula and Boonah offer charming cafes and pubs where you can sample local produce and enjoy a hearty meal after your hike. Remember to bring plenty of water and be mindful of the environment, leaving no trace behind.
