National Arboretum Canberra Guide
A Living Sculpture: Explore the World's Forests in Canberra Guide
Escape the city and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the National Arboretum Canberra. This stunning landscape features 94 forests of rare, endangered, and symbolic trees from around the world. More than 44,000 trees across 250 hectares create a living sculpture, offering breathtaking views, tranquil walking trails, and a unique opportunity to connect with nature. The National Arboretum Canberra was established in response to the devastating 2003 Canberra bushfires, which destroyed much of the city's pine plantations. The Arboretum was conceived as a place of remembrance, recovery, and renewal, showcasing the beauty and resilience of the natural world. The project began in 2005, and the Arboretum officially opened to the public in 2013. It continues to grow and evolve, with new forests and features being added over time. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities at the National Arboretum Canberra. Explore the forests on foot via the numerous walking trails, ranging from easy strolls to more challenging hikes. Take in the panoramic views from the Village Centre and the Margaret Whitlam Pavilion. Let the kids run wild in the Pod Playground, a unique and imaginative play space. The Arboretum also hosts guided tours, workshops, and events throughout the year. The Sprout Cafe offers a selection of light meals and refreshments, focusing on fresh, seasonal ingredients.
