Iguazu Falls (Garganta del Diablo) Guide
Garganta del Diablo: The Devil's Throat - Iguazú's Most Breathtaking Spectacle Guide
Prepare to be awestruck by the Garganta del Diablo, or Devil's Throat, the largest and most iconic of the Iguazú Falls. This U-shaped cataract, where the Iguazú River plunges with thunderous force, is an unforgettable experience that will leave you breathless. No trip to Iguazú is complete without witnessing the sheer power and majesty of this natural wonder. The Garganta del Diablo has been a focal point of the Iguazú Falls since their discovery by Europeans in the 16th century. Indigenous legends surrounding the falls speak of a serpent god who inhabited the river, adding to the mystique and awe of this powerful place. Over time, infrastructure has been developed to allow visitors to safely experience the falls up close, while still preserving the natural environment. The primary activity at the Garganta del Diablo is simply taking in the incredible view. A metal walkway extends out over the river, bringing you right to the edge of the falls. Be prepared to get wet from the mist! The sheer volume of water cascading down is mesmerizing, and the roar is deafening. You can also take boat tours that get you even closer to the falls for an adrenaline-pumping experience. While the area is focused on the visual spectacle, consider trying some Argentinian alfajores (dulce de leche filled cookies) from the park's cafes for a sweet treat.
