Half Moon Bay Guide
Half Moon Bay: A Caribbean Paradise Reborn Guide
Half Moon Bay, located on the southeastern coast of Antigua, is renowned for its stunning crescent-shaped beach and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Once considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, it suffered damage from hurricanes but is now undergoing a remarkable restoration. The bay offers a tranquil escape for those seeking relaxation and natural beauty. While Half Moon Bay doesn't have a deep historical narrative like some other Antiguan sites, its significance lies in its natural beauty and its role as a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The area was once home to a thriving coconut plantation, and remnants of this past can still be seen in the surrounding landscape. The bay's protected status has helped preserve its natural environment, making it a haven for wildlife. Visitors to Half Moon Bay can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling in the calm waters. The beach is perfect for long walks, and the surrounding area offers opportunities for hiking and exploring. While facilities were impacted by past storms, efforts are underway to rebuild and improve amenities. Local vendors often sell refreshments and snacks on the beach. For a more substantial meal, nearby restaurants in Freetown and other surrounding areas offer a variety of dining options.
